You can always find something to be positive
about in every situation. If you think about
the good in things instead of the bad, you
can be happier and feel better.

When things happen that make you unhappy, try
to find something positive about it. Sometimes
you can't change what is happening, so to be
happy, you have to change the way you think
and feel about what is happening. It isn't always
easy, and can take time, but it's worth the effort
so that you feel
good and have more fun.

Situation: Your best friend moves away

Negative: You are sad and will miss your friend

Positive: You had many good times with your friend.
You can still keep in touch by writing to each other and
talking on the telephone. You will both have many
different experiences that you can share with each other.

Situation: You are getting a new baby brother or sister

Negative: You won't get as much attention from your parents
as they will have to give some of their time to the new baby.

Positive: Your parents both love you very much and have
enough love to share with you
and another
baby. You will have someone to grow up
with, play with and share your things with.
You will have a little brother or sister that
will love you and want to learn from you.

Situation: You came last in a race or competition

Negative: You feel like you are not as good as the other
kids and you miss out on an award.

Positive: You did your best and had fun. You know you are
good at other things. You are happy for the
person that came first because you know
how hard they tried and that they
deserved to win.

Think about how you would feel if you always thought

about the negative side of each situation.

Now think about how you would feel if you always thought

about the positive side of each situation.

If you find yourself feeling sad again, just
remember the
positives. You can even make a
list of all of the positives and
carry it in your
pocket so that you can read it when you feel
sad.
New situations and changes can seem scary
at times. If you are scared or worried about
something, it can help to talk to someone
about it. Sometimes you worry about things
that might happen because you are scared.

Instead of worrying about the bad things that could
happen, think about the best things that could happen.
You will feel much happier and you might even find
there was nothing to be worried about after all.
